Stellantis just rolled out a fresh PR flex for a 2027 Ram Power Wagon with a Cummins HO turbo diesel. Same partnership. Same swagger. Same Cummins badge. After the defeat device mess, this is not confidence. This is fucking audacity.
Customers Asked, And The Air Got Shafted
The pitch is pure chest-thump. First ever Cummins HO diesel in the Power Wagon. Best in class base diesel torque at 1,075 lb ft. A 31 gallon tank. An “estimated 600 miles” of range. Starting price $88,470. Landing in the second half of 2026.
They say “customers asked”. Sure. Customers asked for torque. Regulators asked why the emissions controls were being gamed in the real world. Funny which request got the cinematic trailer.
“Resurrection” Is Not A Get Out Of Jail Card
They launched it via a short film called “Resurrection”. That is not subtle. It is marketing as absolution.
Here is the thing. You do not get to baptise a diesel partnership with a PR film and pretend the public record is a rounding error.
Best In Class Torque, Best In Class Amnesia
This Cummins Ram combo is not a new romance. Cummins itself has bragged about extending supply to Ram through 2030.
So yes, this is deliberate. This is them choosing to plough on, loudly, after a scandal that should have made both brands shut up for a decade.
Instead we get Satin Black Cummins badging and a halo truck narrative. As if the badge is not already burned into the emissions story.
The Defeat Device Stain Does Not Wash Out
The US EPA settlement pages and California CARB materials lay out what the government case was about, including alleged defeat device software on diesel engines supplied for Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks and failures to disclose other software calibrations.
So Stellantis can stuff the “legendary” language. You do not get to sell “trust” as a trim level when the last act involved illegal software and a nationwide recall programme.
Clean Air Is Not A Footnote
Look at the press release structure. Paragraphs on skid plates, lockers, sway bars, touchscreens. Not a single ounce of accountability language.
That is the tell. The pollution is treated like an inconvenience. The lifestyle is treated like the product. It is the same play every time.
Still Selling The Same Fantasy
This is the part that makes me properly angry. They are selling “overlanding” and “push further into the unknown” while betting the public will not connect the Cummins badge to the scandal.
If you want a honest slogan, try this:
More torque. More range. Same corporate memory loss.
Knife Edge
After what happened, they could have shown humility. They could have explained what changed. They could have treated clean air like it matters.
Instead they did a film. They did a flex. They did the badge.
Fine. Keep collaborating. Keep cashing it. Keep pretending none of it happened.
And I will keep being the bastard who refuses to forget.
