HM Histories follows the career paths of Horsfield Menzies partners and lawyers, examining the employers behind their professional biographies. Simon Horsfield, Angus Menzies, Daniel Rubin, Laura McLellan and Sam Butler provide the routes. TCAP investigates the institutions along the way: their public records, employment disputes, court judgments, regulatory troubles and corporate controversies. The prestigious names on a CV deserve more scrutiny than a respectful nod.
Each chapter starts with a verified career connection and examines the employer behind it. From discriminatory retirement policies to acquisition-driven job losses and courtroom cock-ups, HM Histories puts institutional reputation beside documented conduct. Meanwhile, the corporate biographies continue selling experience, expertise and reassuring pedigree. We follow those claims back through the firms that supplied them and investigate what the promotional copy leaves out. A polished career history can introduce the employer. It can also introduce the employer’s bullshit.
HM Histories returns to Laura McLellan’s Squire Patton Boggs years. A $500,000 alliance with Michael Cohen, reported partner concerns and a separate office searched by the FBI put the firm’s commercial judgement under scrutiny.
HM Histories follows Sam Butler from the University of Manchester to Thompsons Solicitors. Years before his arrival, a senior employment lawyer let workers’ claims be struck out and concealed it with invented updates. The disciplinary record, Thompsons’ response and Butler’s later employer-side work put the career brochure under scrutiny.
HM Histories follows Daniel Rubin’s career to Ward Hadaway, whose advice on confidentiality clauses sits awkwardly beside a later NHS whistleblower controversy and its 2026 awards sponsorship.
